Aberdeen’s second hydrogen (H2) refuelling station was officially opened on the 27th February along with the launch of a fleet of 10 H2 fuelled Toyota Mirai cars.
Aberdeen City Council’s lead member for H2, Councillor Barney Crockett was joined by Toyota GB President and Managing Director, Paul Van Der Burgh, and Hydrogenics CEO, Filip Smeets, to open the Aberdeen City Hydrogen Energy Storage (ACHES) facility.
The £2.6m ($3.2m) station will serve the city’s expanding fleet of cars and vans and will be fully operational mid-March. Funded by Aberdeen City Council, ERDF, Transport Scotland and Nestrans, it was built and will be maintained and operated by Hydrogenics.
Located in Cove, ACHES has four electric recharging points and has the potential to produce 130kg of H2 per day. Enabling fast refueling, H2 is dispensed at 350 bar and 700 bar pressure.
