Classification society the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has released its set of requirements for onboard carbon capture technology.
Outlined in its newly released document, ‘Requirements for Onboard Carbon Capture’, the new rules were developed by ABS in collaboration with shipyards, ship owners and operators.
In a statement released on the company website, ABS said that it has also developed a carbon capture-ready notation for ship designs highlighting their suitability for having the technology retrofitted.
Focusing on post-combustion carbon capture, the carbon capture systems remove CO2 emissions from a vessel’s exhaust, supporting compliance with emissions regulations.
