The hydrogen (H2) ecosystem in Costa Rica has made major progress after Ad Astra Rocket Company, an American rocket propulsion business, finalised two major milestones towards the completion of the country’s H2-based transportation infrastructure.
In the development, Ad Astra has integrated H2 production, storage and dispensing subsystems at its facility in Liberia city.
It has also completed the final steps in the procurement, transport and operation of the country’s first H2-fuelled electric passenger bus, which is expected to start operations next month around Guanacaste.
The bus, manufactured by Belgium’s Van Hool for US Hybrid Corporation, can travel approximately 338km on 38kg of compressed H2.
