ADM starts up Illinois CCS project, will capture over five million tonnes of CO2

Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM), one of the world’s largest agricultural processors, has successfully started up its Industrial Carbon Capture and Storage (ICCS) project in Illinois.

It’s the company’s second carbon capture and storage (CCS) scheme and will safely and permanently store more than one million tonnes of by-product carbon dioxide (CO2) per year from ADM’s Decatur corn processing facility.

ICCS was designed to demonstrate the commercial-scale applicability of CCS technology in a saline reservoir. The project is currently permitted to operate for five years, holding the potential to store up to 5.5 million tonnes of CO2 in total.
