AFC Energy successfully completes testing of Gen2 fuel cell system

Industrial fuel cell power company AFC Energy has successfully accomplished testing of its Generation 2 (Gen2) fuel cell system, helping to contribute towards attaining the company’s 2016 Strategic Milestones.

The improved Gen2 technology platform incorporates design changes geared towards extending the operating life of the fuel cell stack, increasing stack availability, reducing stack cost and delivering high levels of availability.

Confirmation of its stack design improvements and positive multiple stack testing means AFC Energy has delivered Milestones 1 and 2 of its eight strategic aims for the year.

In addition to the Gen2 fuel cell stack demonstration, AFC Energy’s fuel cell system has proven to be capable of accepting lower grade hydrogen (H2) compared to traditionally-used laboratory standard H2. According to the company, this will “open up new lower grade H2 source opportunities” and “lower the likely cost of H2 in commercial applications.”
