Industrial gases specialist Air Products is teaming up with Associated British Ports (ABP) to establish the UK’s first large-scale green hydrogen production facility, capable of decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors such as transport and industry.
By enabling the import of green ammonia from its facilities, Air Products plans to drive progress towards the Government’s plan for 10GW of low-carbon hydrogen to be in production construction by 2030.
Alongside Air Products, ABP will invest in new infrastructure at the Port of Immingham, such as a new jetty to handle the import and export handling of liquid bulk products.
With the scope of focus on the wider low-carbon economy, the partners aim for the jetty to play a ‘significant role’ in the UK’s energy transition by designing it to handle import of liquefied CO2 from carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects.
