Air Products has successfully filled its 100th helium (He) ISO container at its newest He production facility in Colorado, US.
The Doe Canyon plant is unique in that it’s the only one in the world extracting He from a gas stream composed primarily of carbon dioxide (CO2).
The facility extracts He from the gas stream and returns the CO2 to the site host, Kinder Morgan CO2 Company, for its intended enhanced oil recovery (EOR) use.
This is not just another liquid He plant. By using cutting-edge technology, combined with world class operations, we’re able to recover He from CO2
Much of the He produced in the US today comes from the US Bureau of Land Management (BLM) system, however this system is in decline and will eventually become completely depleted. At the same time, the world’s demand for He is set to continue to grow, meaning new sources of He like this are becoming essential.
