Air Products’ hydrogen fuelling technology has begun filling mass transit fuel cell buses at a BP station in Beijing, China, in preparation for fuelling buses to shuttle athletes and visitors during the 2008 Olympics.
The technology at BP’s station, the first demonstration project for new energy vehicles in China, was officially dedicated by SinoHytec, BP, and other assembled dignitaries directing the project at the Zhongguancun Yongfeng High-Tech Industrial Base in the Beijing Hydrogen Park.
Air Products’ Series 300 fuelling technology is an integrated vehicle fuelling system that compresses and dispenses hydrogen to the vehicles. This fuelling technology is designed to meet early vehicle fleet fuelling requirements by providing customers flexibility of using hydrogen generated on-site, or a distributed hydrogen supply. The station will supply several fuel cell buses that will travel normal mass transit routes in preparation for eventual shuttle use during the 2008 Olympics.
Wilbur Mok, president of Air Products Asia, said: “We are very pleased that Air Products’ technology was chosen for this station by BP and to continue our relationship of working together on several hydrogen fuelling stations around the world. The continued use of hydrogen for mass transit is encouraging from an educational standpoint as bus riders familiarize themselves with the use of hydrogen as an alternative energy. At the same time, we are honoured to be part of the green environmental effort for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.”
