Plans for multi-billion-dollar net-zero hydrogen energy complex have been unveiled for Edmonton, Alberta – and Air Products is at the heart of it.
In conjunction with the Government of Canada and the Province of Alberta, the industrial gas giant today (June 9) said plans will begin with a transformative $1.3bn net-zero hydrogen production and liquefaction facility expected onstream in 2024.
The centre of Western Canada’s hydrogen economy, Alberta’s hydrogen complex is set to make the clean fuel a key enabler for the country’s carbon neutrality by 2050 goal. Further to that, the plans set the stage for Air Products to be at the heart of one of the most competitive markets.
According to a statement, the project has been approved by Air Products’ Board of Directors, subject to final completion of the agreements contemplated in signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) between Air Products and Canadian authorities, and with appropriate permit approvals.
