Airbus has become the latest aerospace firm to invest in clean energy company Carbon Engineering to support the development of its direct air capture (DAC) research and development facility in British Columbia, Canada.
Set to be Carbon Engineering’s permanent business and development headquarters, the innovation centre is believed to be the world’s largest DAC research and development facility.
Karine Guenan, Vice-President of ZEROe Ecosystem at Airbus, said, “We are proud to be investing in Carbon Engineering, reaffirming our commitment to the use of direct air capture as a two-fold solution for the decarbonisation of the aviation industry.”
Carbon Engineering’s DAC technology uses large fans to pull in air and then, through a series of processes, extracts the CO2 while returning the other air components to the environment.
