Riding the wave of shale gas drilling success that is transforming the US energy landscape, America’s natural gas and LNG producers, EPC contractors, equipment and services providers are bringing new energy to the nation’s presence at Gastech 2018 this week in Barcelona.
“For the first time in six decades, we have become a net natural gas exporter,” said US Energy Secretary Rick Perry. “This gives us the opportunity to share not only our energy, but the technology and the know-how that unleashed our bounty in the first place.”
In 1988, the United States produced just under 18 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, which accounted for less than 10% of the nation’s power mix, according to the US Department of Energy. Last year, the US produced nearly 29 trillion cubic feet, and it was the country’s single largest source of electricity, accounting for nearly one-third of all US production.
Growth in production is driving more American companies to participate in Gastech 2018. Nearly 60 US companies representing 19 states plus the District of Columbia are exhibiting in Barcelona this week, up 30% from the total of 42 that participated in last year’s edition in Tokyo.
