German automotive giant Audi AG (Audi) is playing its part in advancing sustainable solutions by developing technologies to directly capture carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from ambient air.
The company is showcasing its direct air capture (DAC) solutions alongside partner, Austrian green tech firm Krajete GmbH (Krajete) at a new plant in Linz, Austria. At the plant, the companies are using an inorganic filter material to remove CO2 emissions from air.
DAC works by drawing in ambient air via a fan positioned inside a collector. Once inside the collector, the air passes through a filter which traps – or adsorbs – CO2 particles. Designed with efficiency in mind, the duo’s filter is highly insensitive to the effects of moisture, which means that the captured ambient air rarely needs to be pre-dried before filtering.
