The Northern Territory (the Territory) Government in Australia is set to give its energy sector a boost with a decarbonisation partnership with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), industry and engineering companies.
To create a sustainable solution to carbon storage, a joint business case between all parties will assess the potential for a carbon capture and utilisation storage (CCUS) hub at Middle Arm, Darwin.
As one of the largest multi-user, multi-access facilities of its kind in the world, the hub is intended to allow the Territory to meet demand for low carbon energy, in addition to turning Middle Arm into a competitive and sustainable energy and manufacturing centre.
As well as working with industry, the hub will involve the participation of CSIRO, an agency which regularly works with international organisations in all areas of scientific research.
