BCGA guide details gas container information

The British Compressed Gases Association (BCGA) working closely with the Department for Transport has pulled together a wealth of information and guidance to produce a new, definitive guide to the many types of gas containers in use in the UK.

BCGA Guidance Note 36 covers the use, inspection and transport of cylinders with various design codes.

It has been written to tackle some of the difficulties in interpreting ADR, the European Agreement Concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road, and is endorsed by officials from the Department for Transport.

Doug Thornton, Chief Executive of BCGA, said, “Current regulations and standards relating to the use of different types of gas containers are extensive, complex and can be difficult to understand. GN36 has been written to offer an interpretation of that guidance. It covers the range of industrial, food and medical gas cylinders which may be encountered within the UK and sets out which are allowed for particular uses, where they may be used and where not. The content is relevant to a wide audience including end-users of gas cylinders, as well as those who make, refurbish, fill, test and transport them. It is a completely new publication from us and has taken a lot of work over a number of years to produce. We believe it will become an invaluable reference point.”
