Bestobell Valves, part of the President Engineering Group, has had a major boost to its marine division with the award of a new contract for cryogenic cargo globe valves from the Hudong Zhonghua shipyard in China.
The multi-million dollar contract will see the UK-based company manufacturing valves for six 174K LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) Carriers. The LNGC have been contracted by Sinopec, China Shipping Group and MOL of Japan to ship coal bed LNG from the Gladstone field in Australia back to China.
The valves will be part of the largest LNGC vessels to be built at Hudong Zhonghua shipyard and will be due for delivery by the end of 2015. These will also be the first LNGCs to utilise GE’s latest gas turbine engine technology.
Duncan Gaskin, Sales Director of Bestobell Valves, explains, “This new contract win is part of our strategy to invest resources to expand our growth in China. Here we are focusing not just on supplying valves to new LNG Carriers, but also for the predicted boom in the use of LNG as a fuel for domestic vessels, as China seeks to convert its transport economy over to cleaner fuels.”
