Speaking at the 2021 Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA) National Conference on 14th December, Lord Callanan reiterated just how beneficial biomethane could become when decarbonising and ‘levelling up’ the UK economy.
Callanan, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Business, Energy and Industry Strategy, also highlighted the fact that biomethane could also contribute to hydrogen production and to carbon capture and usage (CCU).
Biomethane, an upgraded form of biogas, can be used as feedstock for hydrogen production, with CCU capable of helping produce methanol, a liquid hydrogen carrier.
Callanan also mentioned the Green Gas Support Scheme (GGSS), a government initiative to facilitate the growth of the biomethane industry.
