A new partnership has been launched between the European Commission and industry leaders to support the scaling up of biomethane production as part of the journey to Net Zero emissions.
Originally announced in the REPowerEU plan released in May, the Biomethane Industrial Partnership (BIP) aims to increase energy security and reduce Europe’s dependency on Russian natural gas by increasing the annual production and use of biomethane to 35bcm (billion cubic metres) by 2030.

In addition to contributing to an integrated Net Zero energy system, the project aims to take a circular approach to reducing emissions and diversifying farmer’s incomes.
