The Anaerobic Digestion & Biogas Association (ADBA) has described biomethane as a vitally important part of our energy future and is keen to urge its long-term deployment.
The encouragement came in response to a recent announcement by the UK Department for Energy & Climate Change (DECC) of consultation on tariffs for the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).
The DECC is proposing tiered options for the tariffs, with ADBA eager to work closely with the DECC and its own members over the course of the consultation to provide ‘the evidence they need’ to provide tariffs that promote biomethane development.
ADBA Chief Executive Charlotte Morton said, “The consultation on RHI tariffs offers the opportunity to put support for biomethane to grid on a long-term basis. Biomethane is a vitally important part of our energy future, offering the chance to decarbonise difficult areas like the gas grid and heavy goods transport without widespread changes to infrastructure.”
