A helium filled bubble the size of St Pauls Cathedral has become the latest unique addition to Londons skyline.
The spectacular ovoid-shaped inflatable canopy, created by world famous architect Rem Koolhaas and structural engineer Cecil Balmond with Arup for the 2006 Serpentine Gallery Pavilion Commission, took eight hours to fill and floats over the pavilion at the renowned Serpentine Gallery, Kensington Gardens.
Illuminated at night, it is raised into the air in good weather and lowered in bad weather to protect visitors below.
BOC pumped more than 5,500 cubic metres of the gas into the canopy “ enough to lift two three tonne elephants into the air.
