BOC reduces water treatment costs with oxy-technology

Technology developed by BOC’s parent group, The Linde Group, has harnessed an oxygen-based membrane bioreactor process to reduce water treatment costs. The new technology also promises to enhance water quality.

As the cost of water continues to rise, so too do the environemental treatment standards. It was with this parallel in mind, that the British industrial gas company released its new AXENIS waste water processing technology. Using an oxygen-based membrane bioreator (Oxy-MBR), BOC’s AXENIS solution reduces the cost of water treatment whilst also maintaining a high standard of final water quality.

According to Stuart Pigott, BOC Senior Technical Specialist, the device answers industry needs. Pigott explained, “The Axenis system addresses the needs of industry in extending the life of waste water treatment facilities while at the same time enhancing environmental performance. The savings it can make are significant in the current climate of austerity and difficult investment conditions.”

The AXENIS process is a unique system which provides a means of oxygen transfer, pH control by air stripping CO2, ultra-filtration (UF) membrane separation of biomass together with some mixing energy as the biomass retentate is delivered back into the bioreactor.
