BOC safety checks reveal unsafe gas welding equipment

Motor repairers across the United Kingdom are urged to pay careful attention to safety with oxy-fuel gas equipment. Safety checks reveal that many are using unsafe, out of date or even faulty equipment.

According to the British Compressed Gases Association (BCGA) code of practise seven (CP7) oxy-fuel equipment – hoses, regulators, gauges and blow torches used for cutting and welding must be inspected annually and replaced every five years.

BOC Industrial is one of the few companies in the UK to regularly test customer equipment.

Mike Dennis, director of BOC Industrial, said: $quot;Every day our experts conduct checks and by far the commonest problem encountered is gas leaking. More often than not the operator will be completely unaware that equipment has deteriorated to the point where it needs replacing.$quot;
