Bomin Linde LNG completes Australia’s first LNG-fuelled ferry bunkering

Bomin Linde LNG GmbH & Co. KG has successfully completed the initial liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering of what will be Australia’s first LNG-fuelled ferry.

The Hamburg-based business organised the planning, preparation and implementation of the fuelling operation for the ‘Searoad Mersy II’ vessel, which included obtaining relevant permits from the port, technical consulting and onsite coordination.

The ferry features a unique tank system of the ferry as it utilises LNG trailers that are connected to the drive system after being filled with LNG rather than having its own tanks. As a result, Bomin Linde LNG specifically created bunker guidelines and safety procedures tailored to international regulations for this new fuelling system.
