The world’s first in-service oil-free reciprocating high-pressure fuel gas compressor, Burckhardt Compression (Burckhardt)’s Laby-GI Compressor type LP250 has reached 10,000 hours of uninterrupted operation.
Installed on a 174,000 cubic metre (cbm) liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, the LP250 and Burckhardt’s compressor systems in general are integral to managing the boil-off gas produced as LNG heats up during storage and transportation.
This is achieved by the 5-stage fuel gas compressor system being able to handle a boil-off gas flow of up to 4,700 kg per hour.
The LP250 is capable of compressing gas to 300 bar in a large, ring-sealed compressor system without cylinder lubrication – made possible through dry-running sealing technology, ideal for the handling of gases at low temperature and high pressure.
