Canadian Government issues call to increase CCUS developments

The Canadian Government has called for an expression of interest to support carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) developments across the country as it strives to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

On Monday (9th August) the Honourable Seamus O’Regan Jr., Minister of Natural Resources, announced the call which will be funded under the Energy Innovation Programme (EIP) to assist Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) studies that have the potential to reduce the impact of carbon emissions.

“CCUS will lower emissions, create jobs and increase our competitiveness. This is how we get to net zero by 2050,” Minister O’Regan said when the call was announced.

Although Canada already stands as a leader in CCUS technologies, the Federal Government has said it will invest $319m into research, development and demonstrations to advance the commercial viability the tech as part of its 2021 budget.
