The carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) test well programme has been successfully completed at a Louisianan green fuels project in Caldwell Parish – and it’s believed to be the first renewable diesel fuel project to achieve such milestone.
Strategic Biofuels on Wednesday (12th August) announced the milestone, stating that the tests demonstrated that carbon dioxide (CO2), the main greenhouse gas generated during the fuel production process, can be safely and securely stored deep underground.
Further to that, it highlighted that the storage reservoir has sufficient capacity to store all the gas produced over the plant’s lifetime.
Commenting on the achievement, Dr. Paul Schubert, CEO of Strategic Biofuels, said, “Carbon capture and permanent geologic sequestration is no longer a hypothetical scenario for Louisiana Green Fuels — successful completion of the test well is a major milestone that’s not been achieved by any other renewable diesel project.”
