CCSA calls for Energy Bill to focus on enabling of carbon capture, hydrogen

Following the Queen’s Speech made earlier today (May 10th), the Carbon Capture and Storage Association (CCSA) has called for the Energy Security Bill to include additional legislative proposals to enable carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS).

The speech made reference to the importance of CCUS and low-carbon hydrogen in helping to deliver a ‘more secure, clean, and affordable’ energy system, in addition to an Energy Bill that could help attract billions in private investment. 

Designed to build on the success of the COP26 Summit in Glasgow last year, the Bill intends to help accelerate the development of low-carbon industrial clusters across the UK through the introduction of new business models for carbon capture and carbon dioxide (CO2) transport and storage infrastructure. 

”Ministers will bring forward an Energy Bill to deliver the transition to cheaper, cleaner, and more secure energy,” stated Prince Charles, who gave the speech in lieu of the Queen.
