Sustainable construction materials company CEMEX will work with decarbonisation specialist Carbon Clean on a Front End Engineering Design (FEED) study for a ‘ground-breaking’ carbon capture project at its Rüdersdorf plant, Germany.
Two stages of the project have been submitted for national and European funding, ready for operation by 2026.
The first phase will see the plant capturing 100 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per day and producing green synthetic hydrocarbons by combining the capture process with renewably sourced hydrogen.
Increasing the CO2 capture by an additional 300 tonnes per day will be the focus of the second phase, using hydrogen supplied by a dedicated pipeline.
