Carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) projects for the shipping industry are at the heart of a new partnership between Chart Industries and exhaust gas cleaning systems company Ionada.
The duo today (18th Oct) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will see a merging of Ionada’s carbon capture technology and Chart’s expertise in carbon dioxide (CO2) storage and handling systems to decarbonise the maritime sector.
CO2 captured via the technology can be stored onboard Chart’s CO2 ISO containers or in engineered built-for-purpose type C tanks and then offloaded at ports. Once unloaded, the CO2 can either be permanently stored or used by CO2-consuming industries.
On the partnership, Jill Evanko, CEO of Chart, said, “We are thrilled to partner with Ionda to help improve the carbon footprint of the shipping industry.”
