Chart has shipped the final two cryogenic tankers that will complete the first phase of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) hub being built in Klaipėda port, Lithuania.
Chart had already delivered three of the Decinske Giants cryogenic vessels at the site in February. The remaining two were dispatched from the company’s facility in Decin, Czech Republic, last week.
Each HT1000 mega-tank measures over 50m in length with an internal diameter of almost 6m. In total, the five vessels will provide an initial LNG storage capacity 5,000 m3, although plans are in place to increase this to 10,000 m3.
The LNG distribution station will create a small-scale LNG infrastructure, establishing the port of Klaipėda as a hub for the Baltic countries and north-eastern Poland. First commercial operation is expected to commence in the third quarter of the year.
