CO2 storage sites to be co-developed in North Dakota

Minnkota Power Cooperative and Summit Carbon Solutions have joined forces to co-develop carbon dioxide (CO2) storage facilities in North Dakota, near the city of Centre.

Unveiled on Thursday (28th April), the collaboration provides Summit with access to Minnkota’s already permitted 100-million-tonne capacity CO2 storage site located in Centre.

Further to this, it also lays the foundation to jointly develop additional CO2 storage resources nearby, which are estimated to have aggregate CO2 storage exceeding 200 million tonnes.

Mac McLennan, President and CEO of Minnkota Power, said, “We are joining two of North Dakota’s most prominent industries – agriculture and energy – to substantially lower CO2 emissions, while helping preserve American energy security.”
