Compact CO2 capture system comes online at Japan biomass plant

A compact carbon dioxide (CO2) capture system has become the first of its kind to go into commercial operation after its integration into a 7-megawatt (MW) class biomass power plant in Hiroshima City, Japan.

Announced yesterday, 30th June, the engineering arm of Mitsubishi Heavy Indistries (MHI) Group – MHI Engineer, Ltd. (MHIENG), installed the system for its client Taihei Dengyo as part of the company’s efforts to decarbonise heavy industry. 

Capable of capturing 0.3 metric tonnes of CO2 per day, the easily transportable and compact, modular nature of the system sees it requiring an installation space of just five metres in length and two metres wide.
