Air Liquide has won an award for its new Heat Oxy-Combustion technology, at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21), located in Paris – Le Bourget.
Presented by the France-China committee, the award showcases innovative “Climate Solutions” that will work towards mitigating climate change.
The new technology, developed by Air Liquide’s research and development team, is aimed at reducing the environmental impact of glass melting. The process is based on oxy-combustion, which is already widely used within the glass and metallurgical industries.
The Heat Oxy-Combustion follows the principle of extracting heat from the combustion fumes, which is then used to heat oxygen and fuel – the process is said to increase the oxy-combustion performance by 10%. The company state that, compared to the traditional air combustion process, the new technology provides up to 50% energy savings, and up to 50% on carbon dioxide emissions.
