CPV plans $3bn power station with carbon capture in West Virginia

North American electric power generation development and asset management company Competitive Power Ventures (CPV) has unveiled plans for a $3bn carbon capture project in West Virginia.

The Doddridge County-based CPV Shay Energy Centre would consist of a ~1,800MW combined-cycle natural gas power station with carbon capture technology, making it one of CPV’s cornerstone decarbonisation projects.

Once operational, the development could power nearly two million homes and business in West Virginia, while capturing almost all of its carbon emissions.

By combining the turbines with carbon capture technology, CPV would deliver a source of low-carbon, on-demand power that would grow its renewable development portfolio.
