Cryogenic gases solve plastic manufacturing challenges

Precision cooling and pressurising systems are essential to many types of plastic manufacturing. According to Linde, nitrogen and carbon dioxide might hold the key to many associated challenges.

Linde, a North American industrial gas company, recently promoted a new series of high-tech supply and control systems for cryogenic gases which look set to aid the plastic manufacturing industry.

Jim Stanley, Program Manager of Industrial Applications at Linde North America commented, “Precise cooling of injection-molded and gas-assisted injection-molded parts with complex geometries is just one area where our high-tech systems excel.”

The cryogenic gas technology offers rapid cooling using an inert gas, typically liquid carbon dioxide (CO2) or nitrogen (N2) for molding, extruding and foaming applications. The N2 or CO2 promises to cool a polymer product from inside and outside a mold, or by focusing on a specific spot.
