Cryostar has successfully tested its 100th 4-stage Boil Off Gas Compressor (BOGC) at the Cryostar headquarters in Hésingue, France.
After having received the first order in December 2010, this new addition to Cryostar’s product portfolio has been met with tremendous success. “This is a special day for Cryostar. A lot of hard work has gone into the delivery of all these 100 4-stage compressors. Over 30 units are already operating on-board LNG Carriers under commercial voyage conditions,” said Neil Wilson, Commercial Manager of Cryostar’s LNG Transport & Terminals Business Unit.
The reason owners have made the 4-stage BOGC their product of choice is because it allows complete versatility in the BOG treatment on-board a LNG carrier. The 4-stage compressor delivers the required pressure to the Dual Fuel engines independent of the BOG inlet temperature that can range anywhere between -140°C to +40°C. The 4-stage BOGC makes use of water cooling where necessary and as a consequence, this solution no longer depends on spray pre–cooling which previously resulted in unnecessary additional BOG and loss of cargo.
“Very low turndown capability and very short starting time round off its features,” states the company on reflection of its achievement.
