To further reduce Australia’s carbon emissions and stimulate the growth of sustainable industry, Australia’s national science agency CSIRO has collaborated with the Northern Territory Government and industry to explore the potential for a large-scale low emissions carbon capture utilisation and storage (CCUS) hub outside of Darwin.
A CCUS hub of such scale would see the use of waste carbon emissions, in addition to the development of an ‘interconnected’ hydrogen industry.
With the potential for more such hubs around the country, a Northern Territory-based facility will be initially assessed for its ability to significantly reduce emissions of the area’s gas industry, ultimately helping the country to meet its net-zero targets.
Considering the company ‘well placed’ to lead the work, Larry Marshall, Chief Executive, CSIRO, said that the agency is always looking for ways to bring business and government together to deliver a more sustainable future.
