A deal has been struck for the transportation and sequestration of carbon dioxide (CO2) captured from a planned hydrogen-ammonia complex in Ascension Parish, Louisiana, with an approximate 7.2 million tonnes per annum capacity.
Denbury on Monday (31st Oct) said it would be responsible for CO2 produced at the Clean Hydrogen Works site, which could start producing ammonia in 2027, depending on a final investment decision in 2024.
The proposed complex is to be made of two “world-scale” ammonia blocks, located on a 1,700-acre site on the west bank of the Mississippi River in Donaldsonville, an ideal location for exports. The site is less than two miles from Denbury’s existing CO2 pipeline network.
Chris Kendall, President and CEO of Denbury, said the clean energy project aligns with its mission to sustainably deliver energy. The agreement also doubles Denbury’s goal to have agreements for the transportation and storage of 10 million metric tonnes of CO2 per annum by the end of 2022.
