The plans of six self styled ˜eco-warriors to help revive a polluted Teesside stream in the UK have won Freebrough Specialist Engineering College in Redcar and Cleveland, first prize in the inaugural BOC/ NEPIC environment award for schools.
The six students received the award and £2000 for the school with their proposed field study into the minewater discharges polluting East Cleveland Becks. The BOC/ NEPIC environment award launched last year invited secondary school pupils from Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, Durham and Teesside to submit practical ideas on environmental issues ranging from recycling to the preservation of air and water resources.
Presenting the award at Freebrough college, BOC Teesside manager, Dr Dave Lockyer said: The purpose of the BOC/ NEPIC environment award is to raise pupils awareness of key environmental issues.
‘We all have a responsibility for our environment and BOC is constantly working to minimise the impact of industry on the world we live in. BOC has a long tradition here and through the BOC Foundation, fosters projects that improve the quality of our air and water resources.’
