German energy firm and green gases pioneer Uniper will partner with green energy company TES and Niedersachsen Ports to study the potential of building new energy infrastructure at Wilhelmshaven, Germany.
Announced in December last year, the agreement will include the development of a new large joint import terminal with up to six berths for TES and for Uniper – which will also conduct technical studies that could enable the company to import around 2.6m tonnes of green ammonia per year.
According to the partners, this capacity plus the 1GW (gigawatt) electrolysis plant planned as part of the Uniper Green Wilhelmshaven project could supply around 300,000 metric tonnes of green hydrogen – enough to meet 10-20% of the demand expected for 2030 throughout Germany.
