Further large-scale, low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia projects are set to be explored in North America through a new collaboration between Equinor and Tallgrass that will evaluate multiple regional energy centres in the region.
Under a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) unveiled on Tuesday (27th Sep), the energy companies said they will look to facilitate large-scale hydrogen production, capturing a minimum of 95% of CO2 produced for permanent sequestration.
The feasibility of this will be assessed through a jointly funded front-end engineering and design (FEED) study that will also look at ammonia for efficient transportation and storage and the US increases its focus on a more sustainable future
Grete Tveit, Senior Vice-President for Low Carbon Solutions at Equinor, said, “The joint initiative with Tallgrass to launch plans for a large-scale clean ammonia value chain in the US is fully in line with the roadmap of making Equinor carbon neutral by 2050.”
