The UK Carbon Capture and Storage Research Centre (UKCCSRC) has granted funding of nearly £30,000 to scientists at the Energy Safety Research Institute (ESRI) of Swansea University to study new materials for carbon capture.
In collaboration with the University of Pisa and Immaterial Ltd, ESRI plans to scale up new materials using the funds, in addition to preparing industrial testing of the materials through the Reducing Industrial Carbon Emissions (RICE) project, a £11.5m venture funded by the Welsh Government and ERDF.
Dr Enrico Andreoli, part of the team at ESRI, spoke about the funding, saying, “We are delighted to have received funding from the UKCCSRC, it is a unique opportunity to demonstrate the lab scale up of the fluorinated MOF, evaluate approaches to monolith manufacturing, and test its dynamic carbon capture performance.”
As a partnership of eleven UK academic partner institutions, the UKCCSRC aims to help the UK achieve its net zero greenhouse gas emission targets.
