Company Ørsted has taken a final investment decision to build Europe’s largest production facility, FlagshipONE, for green fuel for the shipping industry.
To be built in Ornskoldsvik, Northern Sweden, FlagshipONE will produce approximately 50,000 tonnes per year of eMethanol from renewable energy and biogenic carbon dioxide (CO2).
Engineering, procurement and fabrication (EPF) for the project’s eMethanol technology is set to be provided by Ørsted’s technology partner Topsoe. This will see the company supplying its eMethanol technology, dubbed ‘eMethanol Loop’, in addition to pre-assembled modules for the facility and free-standing equipment such as the methanol reactor and distillation columns.
