Gas carrier design specialist EXMAR has joined forces with tank designers LATTICE Technology (LATTICE) to construct a carbon dioxide (CO2) carrier that is tailored to support carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) projects.
The Panamax beam vessel is planned to be 195 metres long with a cargo capacity of 40,500 cubic metres (m3), designed to support CCUS projects with capacities from two to 10 million tonnes per annum.
In addition to CO2, the carrier will potentially come with 3,000m3 of storage capacity for fuels such as LPG ammonia or liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Holding the belief that CCUS will be a ‘major contributor’ in its efforts to decarbonise the atmosphere, Jens Ismar, Executive Director Shipping, EXMAR, said, “We believe the LATTICE tanks provides the most flexible and economical way to accomplish this.”
