BOC, a member of The Linde Group, is set to install its first fully public liquefied natural gas (LNG) HGV refuelling unit on Junction 42 of the M6 in Cumbria, UK.
The unit, at Exelby’s Golden Fleece Service station will be the industrial gas company’s first LNG fuel unit on an existing forecourt for HGVs in the UK.
Exelby is one of the largest independent bunkering suppliers in the country and handles over 140 million litres of diesel each year through five fuel sites in the north of the UK, but this addition seeks to further propel the Carlisle-based services into the low-carbon fuel market.
The LNG refuelling unit uses cryogenic cooling to temperature-condition the fuel before dispensing. BOC’s LNG technology uses nitrogen (N2) to chill the liquid LNG, preventing it from turning into a gas, which creates a zero-loss and zero-emission system.
