Fluor wins EPC contract to deliver outside battery limits at world’s largest ASU

Global facility designer Fluor Corporation has won an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to deliver the outside battery limits (OSBL) at Sasol’s Secunda plant, South Africa.

Awarded by Sasol Group Technology, a division of Sasol South Africa (Pty) Ltd, Flour will engineer, procure and construct the facilities of the OSBL under the Additional Oxygen Capacity Train 17 Outside Battery Limits project.

The scope of the project includes the integration of Train 17’s product streams with other live operations, such as high pressure oxygen (O2), both high and low pressure nitrogen (N2) and dry air, as well as electricity supply, associated infrastructure and utilities upgrades to the air separation unit (ASU) at the Secunda site.

Tier One player Air Liquide was contracted by Sasol in 2015 to construct the ASU, dubbed the Additional Oxygen Capacity Train 17 project. Once commissioned in December 2017, it will be the largest ASU ever built, producing a total capacity of 5,000 tonnes of O2 per day; a milestone in the history of industrial gas production.
