A total of 20 hydrogen fuel cell cars are expected to provide zero-emission transportation services for the Beijing Olympic Games, according to Fuel Cell Today.
The fuel-cell vehicles have been manufactured by Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Company, a Sino-German joint venture automaker which has already delivered five such cars to Beijing following safety, reliability and durability testing.
Engines for the vehicles were jointly designed and developed by Tongji University, Shanghai Automobile Industry Corporation (Group) and Shanghai Fuel Cell Vehicle Powerstrain Co. Ltd.
The 20 sedans will be used to provide transport for some VIP’s, officials and media people, says the report by Fuel Cell Today. They are a part of the nearly-500-strong ‘Green motorcade’ which will provide zero-emission services at key venues of the Games.
