With companies such as industrial gas producer Messer Group already active in the Cuban economy, a member of one of the German state governments has called for the expansion of German trade and economic relations with Cuba.
Seidel visits Cuba accompanied by 27 businesspeople representing the areas of trade, energy, water resources, construction, ports, hotel industry, raw materials, recycling and tourism, and industrial production facilities.
Deputy Minister of Trade Pedro Luis Padron said the European Union was Cuba´s third most important trading partner at the end of 2006.
Germany is the seventh most important destination of Cuban exports and second in her imports from Europe. There are several joint ventures with German capital in Cuba, in the areas of industrial gases, transportation and construction and more are expected in the year 2007/2008.
