Energy companies Gasunie, KfW and RWE signed an agreement last Friday (4th March) that will see a collaboration on the joint construction of an energy terminal for the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Brunsbüttel, Germany.
The agreement – a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) – comes during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, an event that has caused significant disruption to European and global oil and gas supply.
A letter of intent signed between Germany and the Netherlands will see the Dutch government providing support for the project.
Stating that it will mark an ‘import contribution’ the the European security of supply, Sigrid Kaag, Minister of Finance, the Government of the Netherlands, added that the agreement is a ‘good step’ in reducing dependence on gas imports from Russia.
