As more sectors of industry focus on decarbonisation and clean fuels, Germany has sought to switch to liquefied natural gas (LNG) to mitigate carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the country’s transport sector.
An agreement signed between LNG industry specialists LIQAL and PitPoint.LNG BV (PitPoint) aims to expand the potential of LNG as a cleaner alternative fuel for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs).
To help meet the growing demand for the fuel in Germany, the joint agreement aims to scale up the country’s LNG refuelling infrastructure by constructing three refuelling stations along important freight travel corridors.
Installed at the TotalEnergies truck stop in Hirschberg, the first station is located along the A5 and includes a vertical 80m3 LNG storage tank and two LNG dispensers.
