In an ongoing effort to end its reliance on Russian gas, Germany is set to begin operations at the proposed Wilhelmshaven floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) terminal this December, one of six such terminals planned to be built across the country’s coastline.
The start-up coincides with the commissioning of a 450m long LNG pipeline developed by German pipeline operator Gascade, which will connect the Lubmin floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) to a nearby landing station where LNG will be converted back to a gaseous state and fed into the gas network.
According to a report published by Offshore Technology, the regasified liquefied gas will then be supplied from the Greifswald landing station to Germany and Europe via the OPAL North European Gas Pipeline (NEL) gas pipelines and the European Gas Pipeline Link (EUGAL).
